Teacher growth and development are crucial to the process of effective teaching, learning in the field of education. The formal programmers offered in pre-service and in-service training, the workshops and other courses conducted to orient teachers are generic, superficial and random and seldom address individual abilities, and specific needs. They also do not have the intrinsic back up to provide for sustained long term teacher growth.

Supporting the growth of the individual needs of teachers to make them stronger and resourceful has never been more important than today when there is a fervent need to meet the pressure of developing students for global challenges where in it has become necessary for the teacher to create a range of educational environments to meet the needs of individual learners. In this attempt some adapt superbly, some flounder and others abandon the profession for want of support.

This paper attempts to address teachers as individuals and the need to encourage their growth as persons and professionals. A needs survey has been undertaken and the data analyzed in order to find the commonalities and the differences. The specific needs have been studied with aim to identify the existing support and to expose them to a teacher developmental environment which would accommodate their unique needs and abilities there by encouraging self sustenance of their personal and professional growth.
