Training in Strategies for Teaching Vocabulary, Grammer and Writing
One of the most difficult aspects of learning a second language is the retention of vocabulary. Teachers should keep looking for ways to substitute rote repetition with more effective techniques and make learning vocabulary easier and more pleasant. The first strategy discussed is the “Ripple Effect”. Another useful method in teaching vocabulary involves the use of colour. Colour is an important tool in visual thinking. It stimulates creativity. Grammar teaching has often been regarded as a structure based formal activity. In order to make a grammar lesson effective, beneficial and interesting a teacher could use some well-developed and fascinating techniques like songs and verses for teaching grammar. Of all the four skills, writing takes more time to think, to reflect, to prepare, to find alternative and better solutions. “Dialogue Journals” have recently become quite popular as a way for teachers to communicate with learners individually through writing.
