In recent years, there has been a world – wide increase in the demand for English for Academic and Vocational purposes. EAP takes place in a variety of settings and circumstances. It has never left any stone untouched. It is needed not only for educational studies in countries where English is mother-tongue, but also in an increasing number of other countries for use in the higher education sector. Today there is a great demand for qualified and experienced teachers of EAP. “EAP is concerned with those communication skills in English which are required for study purpose in formal educational systems” (ETIC 1975). The paper provides an outline to introduction to EAP and study skills. It explains the scope, background and puts various aspects of components needed to teach EAP. It examines the different study skills and the applications of it for various categories of people with different occupation for today English is not only used for general purposes. It has several divisions such as ESP, SAP, ESAP, EGAP, EVP, EST, EPP etc. It explains the various features and analysis concerned with academic discourse. It concentrates on the areas of subject-specific language that are relevant to EAP teachers, including the production of teaching materials.
