Changes in the research and technology are transforming even the landscape of education sector today,which in turn is affecting the language teaching methodologies at various levels.This paper highlights the steps taken by the Indian government to bring forth uniform primary education in the country with a special focus on the emphasis give for English as L2 under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan,a 10 year comprehensive pogramme launched by Govt.of India. This paper tries to explore the share of English language teachers in shaping up he future eloquent speakers.This paper brings out the highlights of SSA in Andhra Pradesh with a special mention of its contribution in east and West Godavari Districts. Suggestions are made regarding the methods to be adapted to improvise language teaching at primary level.Finally,the present paper study proposes innovative language teaching techniques that can create enthralling enthusiasm towards English,in the young learners.
